Welcome to my Website
MY WORK
The natural world, especially sky and sea, has always been central to my inspiration.
Working primarily on canvas, I build textured surfaces with thick paint application or with collage, which break through unpredictably as I apply sweeping gestures of paint with trowels/large tools.
This process captures movement, rhythm, and energy. Some works develop over long immersive sessions, while others unfold in shorter bursts, evolving gradually until they reveal their direction. I respond to the behaviour of paint and to my own state of mind in the moment.
Alongside large canvases, I also create smaller vibrant works on paper using the same techniques, and am presently also exploring woven compositions using strips of painted paper works, such as 'Mosaic' (in Individual Artwork)
Recently I have also been experimenting with painting on textured wood. OSB is a strong, versatile and durable building board, an engineered wood panel made from compressed wood strands, with opposing orientation of wood fibres creating rigidity and strength, and giving each board a unique texture.
These works still have many layers of paint and may have some collage, but the texture of the wood alters how the paint sits, and is visible in the finished work you see.
Both “In Bloom” and “Morning Light” are painted on OSB. (In Layers of Light and Season)
